About Dr. Cartwright
It is so important to be listened to,
because being listened to means that you are seen.

Education and Training
While therapy can offer skills for personal growth and change, it is essential to create an environment in which the client's cultural, ethnic, racial, and gender identity is respected. In such an environment, the client can fully appreciate being heard and in essence, being seen, for the work of restoration, self-reflection, healing, and transformation to occur.
Dr. Beverly Cartwright is a Washington State licensed clinical psychologist with over twenty-five years of experience with specialties in trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and OCD. Her treatment focus is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She has received training and has experience with Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. She is certified as a Mindfulness Meditation Teacher, and continues her training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.
Dr. Cartwright earned her Psy.D in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, Illinois. She has extensive experience working with children and adolescents, having worked as a school psychologist in Wisconsin and Washington State. Her therapeutic experience also includes working with veterans through her training at the Zablocki Veterans Administration Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she treated depression, anxiety, PTSD, addictions, and major psychiatric disorders, and conducted neuropsychological assessments.
Dr. Cartwright also received training in family systems from the Brief Family Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She has worked with adjudicated mentally disabled individuals who struggled with homelessness and systemic barriers to services. She has also conducted court-ordered custody evaluations focusing on family reunification with neurodiverse adults, young children and adolescents experiencing cognitive and mental health challenges.
Dr. Cartwright emphasizes a strengths-based perspective that emphasizes respect for the client’s journey. She understands the wisdom of acquiring a sense of balance and understanding in the face of emotional, physical, and environmental forces in life that can undermine the difficult work of recovery and healing. Dr. Cartwright brings her sense of social justics and awareness of the cultural, gender and sexual identity, and ethnic/racial challenges that can interfere with the client’s access to and use of their environmental and inner reservoirs of strength to help navigate their daily lives.
